TN's: 08 Dragonette Cragasacchi-Jalama Pinot

Had to post some quick notes on this wine.

Backstory. In a newsletter, and straight from Brandon Sparks-Gillis' mouth from STARS of Santa Barbara, he stated the new Radian Vineyard Pinot is the most Burgundian since the 08 Cargasacchi-Jalama Pinot. Mental note placed in back of mind.

Fast forward to planning trip to Sonoma. I knew we were going to Restaurant 1833 in Monterey for a special dinner. Grab bottle, placed in carrier.

Here we are, at dinner at Restaurant 1833. Popped by Assistant Somm Dustin since Head Somm, Ted Glennon just became a member of the Daddy Club.

2008 Dragonette Cargasacchi-Jalama Pinot Noir

Initial pop, and Burgundy has some competition. Mushroom, loam, leather, with a sweet red fruit purity beckoning me to drink. But I can't...because the nose is hypnotizing. Finally, taste. The delicate strawberry is so sexy, delicate. Lower side of medium spectrum with weight. Acid is there, and enveloped with very velvety and soft structure.

Wow...why didn't I buy more. If you have one, feel free to enjoy now. If not, good luck finding one. I'm in same boat. Wine-Searcher time.

Great note. Just checked CellarTracker and see that I consumed my one and only bottle of the 08 C-J in 2011. No tasting note written but noted that I gave it a "Really enjoyed this. A " in the log. I rarely grade above A-, so it obviously made a great impression. Have a Radian coming soon, and excited to try this if it compares that well.

Cheers,

Steve
