When I posted a note raving about the 2004 Sanguis “The Last Dance” Syrah about 18 months ago, I noted that I had a less than spectacular 2004 “The Wedding” the month prior. Since my second bottle was from the same auction lot, I lowered my expectations when I opened “The Wedding” again this week. What a fabulous surprise. Not sure if the 18 months made a difference, or if the prior bottle was off in some way, but this one was a knock out. Great nose of dark fruits and mocha. Even better on the palate, with a silky mouth feel, blackberry, licorice and more mocha. Tannins are still present but not harsh, and a great streak of blueberry on a medium-long finish. Enjoyed this over three days and stayed strong until the end. Outstanding.
Note: Labeled "California Syrah". Website indicates 100% Syrah blended from multiple vineyards, but did not indicate which. 15.1% ABV
Cheers,
Steve
