Liquid Farm: Tasting Note and News

Haven’t opened a Liquid Farm Chard in a while so grabbed a 2011 Golden Slope. I’ve opened two of the ’11 White Hills, but this was a first for the ’11 GS. Popped and poured, nice nose of Lemon zest and mineral. On the palate, this seems a bit fuller bodied than the White Hill, with a nice mouth feel, good acidity, with a light lemon citrus amplified with some peach, pear and apple. The minerality is there, and the finish is medium long. A blend of Rita’s Crown, Clos Pepe and Zotovich fruit. Gorgeous. Along with the Lato Sierra Madre and Hilliard Bruce, my favorite SB County Chards. Can’t wait to try the ‘12s in a few weeks.

On to the news…

Nikki’s recent release email indicated that:

- James Sparks (assistant at Dragonette) will be taking over lead winemaking duties for Liquid Farm. Brandon Sparks-Gillis and the Dragonette team will consult on the current ’13 vintage.

- LF has moved into a facility in the new Buellton Wine COOP (see press release below for more info).

- There will be a new Santa Maria AVA blend, including juice from 40 yr old Bien Nacido vines. (Note: we just had some 04 and 07 Au Bon Climat Chards from BN yesterday and they were outstanding)

A press release from Liquid Farm was recently run by the Santa Barbara Independent. For those not familiar with the winery, the release provides a nice rundown on the above, as well as the origins and history of Liquid Farm.

Exciting stuff! Congrats and best wishes to the LF crew.

Cheers!
